CWC Visit to Chengdu Tianfu Jincheng Frontier Medical Equipment Research Institute

On August 1st, representatives from China West Connector (CWC) had the opportunity to visit the Chengdu Tianfu Jincheng Frontier Medical Equipment Research Institute, a cutting-edge facility located in the heart of Chengdu’s High-Tech Zone.

This institution, affiliated with the Chengdu Institute of Medical Equipment, plays a pivotal role in China’s strategic push toward high-performance domestic medical devices. During our visit, it became evident that the institute is rapidly positioning itself as a national hub for ultrasound medical technology development, integrating R&D, clinical trials, and commercialization support under one roof.

We were welcomed by senior researchers who guided us through the key facilities of the institute, including advanced ultrasound imaging labs, preclinical testing platforms, and prototype manufacturing workshops. The institute focuses heavily on developing next-generation ultrasound systems, including handheld, portable, and AI-assisted ultrasound devices designed to improve diagnostic capabilities and affordability in both urban and rural healthcare systems.

As part of China’s broader “Frontier Medical Equipment Innovation Program,” the institute collaborates with major hospitals, universities, and medical startups, providing both technical support and access to clinical feedback loops. Their interdisciplinary approach bridges engineering, medicine, and artificial intelligence, reflecting the type of integrated ecosystem CWC aims to promote between China and Europe.

This visit was part of a broader effort by CWC to map high-potential medtech innovation zones across Western China and identify avenues for strategic cooperation, knowledge transfer, and market access support for international medical startups.

CWC will continue to strengthen its dialogue with the Chengdu Tianfu Jincheng Institute and facilitate future exchanges and pilot collaborations, especially in the field of non-invasive imaging and diagnostic innovation.
